We Want Our Truck Drivers To Enjoy The Ride
At Matheson, we are expanding our fleet with Natural Gas Vehicles to assist in driver retention, improve driver confidence, and provide a quieter, smoother ride, free from diesel fumes.
Matheson continually evaluates new technologies, including the possibility of retrofitting existing diesel equipment to natural gas configurations, to help determine the best approaches to reduce carbon footprint throughout our fleet and increase the satisfaction of our truck drivers.

Our Vision Is To Expand The Natural Gas Highway
As a leading adopter of Natural Gas Vehicles, we are a major contributor to our largest customer, the U.S. Postal Service’s goal to reach their goal of reducing diesel use 20% by the year 2020.
In the long-term, we have developed strategies, partnerships and investments that support a sustainable industry and a cleaner environment. In the short term, Matheson has successfully began moving from a diesel to a Natural Gas fleet.

780,000 Gallons Of Diesel Per Year Have Been Converted To Natural Gas
Natural gas is a low-carbon, cleaner-burning fuel, that can result in substantial reductions of hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Compared to diesel, natural gas emits:
- 99% less sulphur oxide (0.005% of diesel)
- 80% less nitrogen oxide (18% of diesel)
- 40% less CO2
- No heavy metals
- No soot particles

Dedication To A Cleaner Environment
Matheson’s Maintenance Department dedicates considerable attention to managing and reducing waste streams normally associated with truck vehicle maintenance and truck fueling activities. We recycle virtually all streams of waste, including:
- Used oil (recycle approximately 2.5 million gallons annually)
- Used oil filters and fuel filters
- Used antifreeze
- Parts washer solvent
- Spent batteries
- Scrap metal and scrap tires
We don’t take our commitments lightly; we take great strides to ensure safety, and fostering trusting relationships between our Employees, our Customer, our Suppliers, and our Planet.
